This was discussed by Laureen in the July 2012 Medical Coding Certification Q & A webinar. She goes over an example which shows in your know the common medical prefixes and suffixes you will be able to narrow down the answers quite well.

For example, the meaning of -otomy vs. -ectomy and the common prefixes for the parts of the anatomy is important.

For more information, view the replay at www.cco.us and click on Q and A Webinar Replay link. This is a replay club so you get access to all the past replays as well as future ones.

You can also do a Google search for "common medical terminology" to get some review lists.
